Upper Prep School NJROTC Awards 2020-21
On April 29th during formation, in prep school the Science Department announced the winners of the Naval Science NJROTC awards for the 2020-2021 school year. Please join us in congratulating our students who earned awards and scholarships this year.

American Veterans JROTC Award// The American Veterans of World War II, Korea and Vietnam: The American Veterans award recognizes a qualified cadet at each institution operating a JROTC or NNDCC program.

American Legion Music medal: The purpose of the music medal is to recognize and motivate students to excel to the highest levels of their abilities in the fine arts of music, and to recognize the high achievers for their musical talents and leadership. While the Scholastic medal recognizes the analytical side of the child’s brain, the music medal should endeavor to recognize the creative side of the brain which is equally important to developing a well-rounded American citizen.

American Legion Athletic Achievement Medal: The purpose of the athletic achievement medal is to reinforce the value that not only are scholastic wisdom, artistic ability and citizenship excellent attributes, but also maintaining good health is of optimum concern for youth. This award recognizes a youths endeavors to excel in an athletic sport as recognized by longevity, awards and leadership in the field of their chosen sport.

Citizenship medal: The purpose of this medal is to reinforce the core values that is expected of the good citizen in today’s society as reflected by our forefathers. For the youth of today, the ideals of good citizenship are respect for those in authority (elders, parents, teachers, law enforcement, etc.) and respect for other citizens of all races and creed. Citizenship also is helping others in need, sharing what one can afford to share, help and guide those in need. Respect for country is inherent in the good citizen, yet tolerance for those that immigrate and strive to become good Americans through honest effort and sacrifice should be accepted. Many elementary schools give citizenship awards to youth that follow rules and receive no disciplinary referrals. This is only one element of good citizenship, which goes hand-in-hand with the ideals listed above, but is an excellent indicator of intended behavior.

Association of Prep school Colleges & Schools of the United States (AMCSUS) “Purple Heart Scholarship”: In recognition of exceptional performance, inspirational leadership and selfless service as a member of Admiral Farragut Academy

Association of Prep school Colleges & Schools of the United States (AMCSUS) “President’s Medal”: The award is presented at the discretion of the member/college/school according to the that best suits standards of the program. The individual selected should be a full-time cadet who has completed at least two years before being considered for the award. NS2 and above.

American Legion General Prep school Excellence Medal :This award consists of a Bronze Medal accompanied by a ribbon bar with a distinctive miniature attachment superimposed on the ribbon bar. This award is presented annually to one NS-2 or NS-3Cadet (NS-3 or NS-4 Cadet in a 4-year program) at each unit based on the cadet’s general prep school excellence.

American Legion Scholastic Excellence Medal: This award consists of a Bronze Medal accompanied by a ribbon bar with a distinctive miniature attachment depicting a scholastic scroll. This award is presented annually to one NS-2 or NS-3 Cadet (NS-3 or NS-4 Cadet in a 4-year program) at each unit based on the cadet’s overall scholastic achievements.

American Legion Scholastic Medal: The purpose of the Scholastic Medal is to recognize and motivate students to excel to the highest levels of their scholastic abilities, and recognize the high achievers for scholastic achievements and leadership. The Scholastic Medal should be awarded for sustained superior performance in academic endeavors.

Scottish Rite Award: This award recognizes each academic year one outstanding cadet in the second year of a three-year program or in the third year of a four-year program.

The Prep school Officers Association of America (MOAA) ROTC Medal: The purpose of the MOAA ROTC Medal is to recognize an outstanding Cadet in their next to last year in the program who shows exceptional potential for prep school leadership.

Prep school Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH) Award: The prep school Order of the Purple Heart Award recognizes an outstanding cadet who is enrolled in the program and demonstrates leadership ability.

The Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Free & Accepted Mason of Florida Award: For recognition of a cadet who has shown a consistent high degree of merit and accomplishment in terms of leadership, education, and general excellence in the JROTC program, the academic program and other activities.

National Society of Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) Award: The medal endeavors to foster the principle of “citizen-soldier” exemplified by the Minutemen and recipients should be selected by the commanding officer of the ROTC unit based on their leadership qualities, prep school bearing and general excellence. Although commanding officers should be given full latitude in making the selection, the following specific criteria must be met:

National Society United States Daughters of 1812: A Bronze Medal presented to a junior in a JROTC program in a high school who has demonstrated qualities of academic excellence, leadership, prep school discipline, dependability, patriotism, and upright character in speech and habits, which exemplify the ideals upon which our nation was founded

National Society of Women Descendants of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company Good Citizenship Award: Presented by the oldest prep school organization in the New World, established in 1637 to the male cadet that shows excellent character as a member of society; and outstanding behavior in terms of the duties, obligations, and functions of a citizen:

National Sojourners Award: This award, consisting of a ribbon with medal pendant and accompanying certificate, is awarded annually to the Cadet who contributed the most to encourage and demonstrate patriotism within the unit and at school.

The Navy League of the United States (NLUS) Youth Medal: The NLUS presents this award to the cadet at the end of the second or third year whose performance and academics showed the greatest improvement since the previous school year. The Cadet must be considered to have the potential to continue to maintain the high standards of the program.

Noncommissioned Officers Association (NCOA) Award: The award is given to the enlisted cadet(s) who has/have consistently exhibited the best prep school bearing, personal appearance, deportment, and leadership ability.

Naval Science Distinguished Cadet (Ribbon): Awarded yearly to one cadet in each year group with the highest combined average of overall scholastic standing and aptitude in NJROTC unit activities ( includes academics, homework, physical fitness, community service, drill, etc.
