Farragut cadet earns prestigious General Norman H. Schwarzkopf Leadership Award
On February 11th Admiral Farragut Academy had an opportunity to recognize one of its top leaders during the morning formation. The Academy is pleased to announce that CLTJG Shyann Laporte ’20, an outstanding cadet, has been recognized as one of only five students to be chosen from among hundreds as a winner of the West Point Society of West Florida’s prestigious General Norman H. Schwarzkopf Leadership Award.
This award is presented to high school juniors who demonstrate exceptional performance in academics, athletics, community service, good citizenship and leadership. In only her second year at Farragut Shyann has risen to the rank of CLTJG and taken on the assignment as a Battalion Commander. She is a member of the National Honor Society, active in the Social Studies Club and volunteers extensively with Pinellas Hope and the Veterans Affairs Hospital. Additionally, she is the starting pitcher on the 2018 state champion softball team and served as the Unarmed Basic and Exhibition Drill Team Commander during the NJROTC Drill Team season. She currently carries an impressive cumulative 4.19 weighted GPA.
Shyann has distinguished herself by her principled, disciplined and positive behavior on and off campus. She is highly respected by the student body as well as Farragut faculty and staff.
In her essay written on the West Point Honor Code, Shyann wrote “as a developing leader I’ve learned that the only way to success is integrity and staying true to yourself.”
Please join us in congratulating this outstanding young leader on this noteworthy award. We are all proud of her and thankful we will have her with us for another year. Congratulations, Shy!
