Brittany McGee ‘15 finished third in the heptathlon of the Championship Division at the New Balance National Outdoor Track & Field Championships
Brittany McGee ’15 finished third in the heptathlon of the Championship Division at the New Balance National Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which was held at North Carolina A&T University in Greensboro, North Carolina from June 19-22. The event is considered the most prestigious post-season track and field championships for high school athletes, showcasing more than 2,900 of the country’s best talent since 1991.
Brittany, who was named as the Tampa Bay Times Pinellas Athlete of the Year a week earlier, was trying to duplicate her performance in the 2014 Nationals in which she won the title. Despite finishing in third, Brittany, who is headed to Stanford University on a track and academic scholarship, set new personal records for total points (4,947) and in the high jump (5-7), 200 (25.73) and javelin (102-6). n addition to her recognition by the Tampa Bay Times, Brittany, who won four individual titles in the long jump, triple jump, 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles at the Florida High School Athletic Association State Finals, was also awarded the Girls Track Athlete of the Year for the Inaugural Bright House Sports Network Evening of Champions. The award ceremony was held on May 27 and the show premiered on BHSN on June 10.
