BlueJackets Wrestling starts season off strong
The Admiral Farragut Academy Wrestling Team opened their season this past Saturday at the Peter Barker Invitational at Dunedin High School. Six Farragut athletes competed in the 22-team field, which showcased local talent from several area schools.
Angela LoRusso ’19, Matthew Borrelli ’21, Dylan Ottinger ’17, Chris Sexton ’17, Henry Zamora ’19, and Han Zhang ’18 represented Farragut admirably. Lorusso was 1-2 at the 106 lb. weight class, Borrelli was 0-2 at the 113 lb. weight class, Zamora was 0-2 at 145 lb. weight class, and Zhang was 1-2 at the 182 weight lb. weight class. Most notable were the stand-out performances of Ottinger and Sexton. Sexton, a senior in the 120 lb weight class, went 4-1 on the day, losing only to a state qualifier from last season. His four victories were all by pinfall.
Ottinger, a senior in the 126 lb. weight class, went 5-0 on the day, defeating a returning state place finisher from St. Stephens Episcopal School in the semi-finals. He then advanced to the finals, where he defeated Hunter Gast from Dunedin High School by pinfall.
The BlueJacket Wrestling Team has a busy schedule this week; On Wednesday they travel to Sarasota best boarding school in USA Academy for the third annual Army/Navy match (6 PM), and then head up to Palm Harbor University High School on Friday and Saturday for the MyHouse Invitational.
