Admiral Farragut Academy student-athletes, Maeve Case ’22 and Riley Lancaster ’26, took their wrestling to a national stage this past weekend.
Both ladies traveled to Irving, Texas, to compete in the 2021 Women’s Wrestling National Championships. The girls were accompanied and coached by Farragut BlueJackets Wrestling Coach Tony LoRusso and his daughter and Farragut alumnus Angela LoRusso ’19, a current women’s wrestler at Adrian College.

The Girl’s Wrestling Team concluded their season with the Florida Girls State Tournament hosted in Kissimmee, Florida. This year’s tournament had 317 women wrestlers representing 118 schools competing across the 16 weight classes. Many brackets held over 25 wrestlers, all competing for a top 6 placement. Read more

The Admiral Farragut Academy Women’s Wrestling Team competed in the final tournament of the year this past Friday and Saturday called the Florida Girl’s State Wrestling Tournament. This year’s tournament saw over 300 girls competing across 14 weight classes. These numbers consistently put Florida at the top in the nation for participation and competition in women’s wrestling. “The competitiveness and caliber of wrestling continues to grow as this was by far the toughest field of competitors so far,” said Head Coach Tony LoRusso.
Over the winter break, Admiral Farragut Academy Wrestling hosted the 2nd annual Adrian College Women’s Wrestling Winter Camp. Thirty young ladies were in attendance for the two-day camp that included six sessions of instruction. The camp was open to all girls in 6th-12th grade and attendees came from all over the state of Florida. Four of our female wrestlers attended including Jenna Willard, Madison Moore, Grace Vernine, and Riley Lancaster. Read more

Cadets Angela LoRusso ’19 and Madison Moore ’21 competed in the 2019 Florida Girls State Wrestling Tournament this weekend. This year’s girl’s state tournament was the toughest competition in its 8-year history with 275 girls from 94 schools competing. Girls wrestling has seen exponential growth in Florida the past few years with an estimated 700 girls registered this season. And girls wrestling continues to be the fastest growing high school sport nationally.
On Wednesday, February 6th, Admiral Farragut Academy’s athletics department held a ceremony in the West Lounge of Farragut Hall for National Signing Day. 11 student-athletes from 5 different sports signed to continue their athletic career at the college level.
