Farragut Sailing team competes in scrimmage regatta in Venice
On February 21st, 2021, the Farragut sailing team competed in a sailing scrimmage regatta in Venice, FL. It was the first regatta they have participated in for the past two years.
A regatta, a term which comes from the Venetian word ‘regata‘ meaning ‘contest’, is a series of boat races. Though they are typically amateur competitions, they are usually formally structured events, with comprehensive rules describing the schedule and procedures of the event.
The team went up against the Junior Varsity team from Venice High School/Venice Youth Boating Association, and the Varsity and Junior Varsity teams from New Hope High School in the St Croix, Virgin Islands. The big winner of the day was Farragut junior Ozzie DeLeon, who took first place in the Laser Class race. Congratulations to all of our winners; we know you had a great time!
