Family Day 2015-2016
Thank you to all of our family and friends who joined us on Family Day to celebrate the 2015-2016 school year.
The morning started out with breakfast served by SAGE Dining Services. It included a full breakfast menu with an additional Smoothie Bar and Waffle Station.
Following breakfast, the boarding students and their parents watched as the Commandant did room inspections in the dormitories. Boarders had worked tirelessly the night before to have their rooms perfect for the Commandant and their parents viewing.
Parents were also invited to an Administrator’s Reception in the Roy M. Speer Student Center where they could meet with the Headmaster, Principals, Residential Life and Naval Science, plus other key administrators.
Afterwards, all Upper School cadets joined for formation on the West Grinder and the Lower School students held flags from different states of the United States for a Flag Raising Ceremony.
After the ceremony, the Lower School held an assembly for parents and guests in the Chapel where classes read poetry, sang songs and the band played. After the assembly, guests were invited to the classrooms to see some of the classwork, projects and art their students have done. Each classroom also had interactive activities for students and guests which included STEM activities: making helicopter balloons, launching rockets, using the 3D printer, playing Alice games, working with magnets, making marble music, constructing straw structures, and working with circuits.
The Upper School held twenty minute class periods so all parents could experience a shortened school day with their student.
Thank you to all who made our Family Day a success and a time for families to experience student life at Admiral Farragut Academy.
