AFA Scholastic Book Fair sells over 500 books
Our Scholastic Book Fair was a magical event this year as we transformed our Student Center into an enchanted reading forest. We sold over 500 books! That amounts to an average of 90,000 minutes of reading. According to Scholastic, reading just 20 minutes a day exposes your child to 1.8 million words a year. Reading helps students develop a stronger vocabulary and, in addition, students who read for pleasure average higher grades in English, mathematics, science, and history!
Our Family Night was well attended and everyone enjoyed the Chili Cook-off which ended in a fierce tie between Ms. Mozombite and Mrs. Bakken. They have graciously agreed to share the title and the coveted Golden Chili trophy.
Our Book Fair would not be possible without the dedication of our wonderful volunteers. A special thank you Ms. Gonczar for the transformation of the Student Center. The day-to-day operations were supported by Mrs. Bonilla, Mrs. Larrinaga, Mrs. Lewis, Mrs. Preston, Mrs. Giblin, Mrs. Harper, and Ms. Klingel. Our car line gnomes and unicorns were created by Mrs. Sokolowski and Mrs. Colangelo. Food, games, and prizes were graciously donated by Mr. and Mrs. Salebra, Mrs. Raymond, Mrs. Salmae-Fackih, Mrs. Hearn, Mrs. Bakken, and Mrs. Fatseas. Teacher gift bags were provided by Mrs. Geis. Thank you all for making this a magical event!
Happy reading,
Ms. Morris
