Michael Cooney ‘16 receives American Legion recognition
Senior cadet Michael Cooney received recognition and a proclamation from the American Legion for his outstanding performance at Boys State. In addition, Michael received a proclamation from the Mayor of the City of Largo.
The American Legion Boys State is among the most respected educational programs of government instruction for high school students. Each participant becomes a part of the operation of his local, county and state government. Boys State has been a program of The American Legion since 1935.
Michael was honored along with four students from Largo High School.
Each student was asked to have his family and a representative from his school accompany them to the awards ceremony. Michael’s mother, father, and sister, were in attendance, along with Steve and Joy Edwards from the Commandant’s Staff representing Admiral Farragut Academy.
Michael spoke about his experiences at Boys State and Steve Edwards was asked to speak about Michael and his achievements and accomplishments at Admiral Farragut Academy.
A letter of congratulations to Michael from 1st Sgt Worthy was also read.
The principal of Largo High School accompanied and spoke about his students.
Michael stated: “Boys State was a great educational and learning experience. I was honored to be selected to attend and I am grateful to the American Legion for providing me this opportunity.”
