Lower School students graduate from Tae Kwon Do program
On Wednesday, April 10, 2019, the 1st-3rd graders had their graduation ceremony from the Champion Tae Kwon Do’s BESTT Program. They had been participating in the program once a week for 8 weeks.
Champion Tae Kwon Do’s BESTT (Bringing Excellence to Schools Through Tae Kwon Do) Program was created by Grandmaster Yong Jun Lee as a way to bring confidence and boost physical activity with elementary aged children through Tae Kwon Do. Along with physical activity, there are five distinct characteristics that the BESTT Program revolves around; Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control and Indomitable Spirit. This helps children develop strength and character. The program also helps prepare children for academic learning by developing respect, patience, listening skills, concentration and focus.
At the ceremony, parents were given the opportunity to watch their children demonstrate what they had learned. Each student wrote his or her bad habits on a wooden board, and then, while their parents held the board, they broke them. Even the Head of Lower School got in on the act, breaking two boards herself! Each student also received a white belt and a certificate of completion, and some children even received a special award.
