Brittany McGee finished third in the most prestigious post-season track and field championships for high school athletes

Brittany McGee ’15 finished third in the heptathlon of the Championship Division at the New Balance National Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which was held at North Carolina A&T University in Greensboro, North Carolina from June 19-22. The event is considered the most prestigious post-season track and field championships for high school athletes, showcasing more than 2,900 of the country’s best talent since 1991. Read more

Michael Dunleavy ‘16 completes Eagle Scout project

Michael Dunleavy ’16 of Boy Scout Troop 340 turned over his completed Eagle Scout project to Madeira Beach City Manager Shane Crawford June 6 at Madeira Beach Causeway Park. The project is a Spartina nursery. Spartina is a cord grass that is indigenous to Florida and is used to assist with land reclamation along the beaches and in marshes. Read more

Chris Northup ‘18 becomes Eagle Scout

Congratulations goes out to Chris Northup ‘18 for becoming an Eagle Scout. Chris had a particularly unique path in attaining the rank due to his troop being in Saudi Arabia. Chris, who started attending Farragut in August 2014, had a keen interest in sustainable farming and homesteading for many years. Read more

Two faculty members visit partnership schools in China

Upper School English instructor, Heather Ewing, and Aviation instructor, Rob Ewing, represented Admiral Farragut Academy when they visited the dual partnership schools in China during the month of June. They first went to Limai school in Beijing where they observed classes and held teacher training sessions. Limai has two primary schools and one high school, offering boarding and non-boarding options, similar to Farragut. The second school the Ewings toured was Yaohua school in Tianjin where they attended graduation and Mr. Ewing was a guest speaker as part of the ceremonies.

“The trip was an incredible experience and we are looking forward to greeting some visiting students, at Farragut, later in July,” Mrs. Ewing said. “We found the students to be insightful, polite and creative. The staff at both schools went out of their way to make sure we had an amazing visit. Also, the people of China everywhere we went were gracious, friendly and informative.”

Some notable places the Ewings visited were the Great Wall of China, the Forbidden City, Temple of Confucius, and Tiananmen Square.

Farragut softball team advances to regional finals for first time in school history

Family Day, Farragut Style

The day started off with a flag ceremony overlooking the waterfront and a march of flags representing many countries of the world and our diverse student body.

Following the flag raising ceremony was a breakfast social hosted by Captain Fine and Mrs. Fine at Farragut Hall’s West Lounge. Parents mingled and enjoyed hot coffee, pastries, and fresh fruit. Then, Upper School Parents were invited to visit their child(ren)’s classrooms.

Mark Panuthos selected by the Madeira Beach VFW Post as its Teacher of the Year

Congratulations goes out to Mark Panuthos, who was selected by the Madeira Beach VFW Post 4256 as its Teacher of the Year. Mr. Panuthos, who teaches AP U.S. History, AP Microeconomics, Intro to Economics, and American Government, was also selected as the District Winner. The Smart/Maher National Citizenship Education Teacher Award annually recognizes the nation’s top classroom teachers who teach citizenship education topics regularly and promote America’s history and traditions effectively.

Head of Upper School, CDR Shannon Graves nominated Mr. Panuthos back in November and this Thursday Panuthos was informed by Graves and CDR Ronald Mills of VFW Post 4256 about his selection.

“I am honored to have been nominated by CDR Graves,” said Mr. Panuthos, who has taught at Farragut since 1996. “We have the best teachers here at Farragut and my nomination means a great deal to me. I am further honored to have had my nomination validated by an organization as prestigious as the VFW. I am looking forward to the awards ceremony and I’m looking forward to building a relationship with the VFW.”

Mr. Panuthos will be presented his award and recognized on April 16th at the annual awards ceremony at the VFW Post 4256.
