Farragut softball team advances to regional finals for first time in school history
Spring is definitely in the air for the Farragut softball team. The Lady BlueJackets continued to etch their name in the history books as they advanced to the Class 3A Regional Finals after a 5-2 victory over Northside Christian.
Corynn Miner was dominant once again on the mound, striking out 11 batters to help Farragut improve to 15-6 on the season. Corynn helped her own cause by smashing a solo home run to center off Mustangs starter Jordyn Counts to silence the home crowd at Northside Christian.
“We wanted revenge after losing to them in the district final,” Corynn said. “We had the mindset to come out and dominate.”
Farragut jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning thanks to a RBI-single by Maiya Fudge that scored Alicia Fudge and a run-scoring hit by Deliah Carrillo that scored Corynn. Two innings later, Corynn added to the lead with her homer. Then, in the fourth, Ally Collins tripled to start the inning and scored on Martina Herrera’s infield grounder.
The Mustangs would score two runs in the sixth inning on a two-run homer by Megan Tozour, but the BlueJackets added an insurance run in the seventh to seal the win.
Farragut will travel to Glades County on May 1 in the regional finals to face Moore Haven, who advanced due to their 2-0 victory over Saint John Neumann Catholic.
The next game is Friday, May 1 at 7 p.m.
