Alyssa Rano ‘20 receives “Excellence in Youth Sportsmanship” award
During the 44th Annual Clearwater For Youth Celebrity Banquet on Saturday, February 25, Alyssa Rano ‘20 received the “Excellence in Youth Sportsmanship” Award.
The award, presented by Clearwater For Youth and the City of Clearwater City Council, recognizes individuals who display a positive attitude and show respect toward their opponents, officials, and coaches.
Alyssa joined the Farragut BlueJackets softball team her first year at Farragut in 7th grade and currently plays the positions of middle infield and pitcher. In 8th grade she joined the Clearwater Bullets, a travel softball team based in Clearwater, Florida, and currently plays the position of outfielder and pitcher.
“Being a leader is really important to me,” said Alyssa who is one of the team captains on both of her softball teams. “I always try to help other people out other than myself on the field. This is really cool to be recognized.”
In addition to being recognized at the banquet, she received a framed letter from the Mayor of Clearwater, George Cretekos.
“This exemplifies what we teach in our softball program,” said Farragut’s head softball coach, Linda Derk. “Your behavior on and off the field is equally important to the success of a team. Alyssa is a great student-athlete and we are very proud of her.”
When asked about her future, Alyssa said she hopes to play collegiate softball and study environmental science and chemistry.
