Farragut is a certified Project Lead the Way (PLTW) School
Effective immediately and retroactive to the beginning of the school year, Admiral Farragut Academy is a certified Project Lead the Way (PLTW) school.
The PLTW staff including Mr. Lanny Woods, PLTW Director of Florida School Engagement and Dr. Liz Zidek, Dean – Whitaker College of Engineering, Florida Gulf Coast University, spent all day with us on Tuesday, May 12th, to review our program. They took a detailed look at our students work, facilities and interviewed teachers, staff and students. The end result was a glowing report of our accomplishments here at AFA in a very short time period. It usually takes schools much longer to achieve certification and we did it in four years! This did include our first year which were Saturday classes. Before the review team left campus, they awarded us our certification.
The designation of a Certified PLTW School means a great deal to our program. It means that we are one of the top programs in the USA and adds a great deal of credibility to our efforts. I have always maintained a philosophy that we need to strive to be the best at the PLTW program and navigate through the sometimes choppy waters to achieve that result. Because of the exemplary work of our teaching staff, support from our administration and hard work from our cadets, we have accomplished our goal. My sincerest congratulations go out to our entire team for accomplishing this goal. It was a hard job very well done!
Since we now have certification, our Seniors, who have taken PLTW courses this year, can now utilize PLTW dual enrollment, admission preferences and scholarships. The following links to the PLTW site explain in detail how to apply for those benefits.
