The NewDay USA Scholarship Program is focused on Gold Star Families, which is reserved for families of service members who have died in the line of duty. Secondary consideration will be to those families whose service members are 100% disabled.
About the nomination process:
- The New Day Scholarship selection is competitive and nationwide with an annual deadline of July 1.
- Priority consideration of nominated applicants is given to Gold Star families – Children of fallen armed service members killed in action.
- Secondary consideration is given to children of Veterans
- The child must be entering 8th-11th grade.
- Official student academic transcripts are required.
- A copy of parent DD214 AND a copy of the Department of Veterans Affairs letter for the service-connected compensation award.
- A letter describing the nature of the veteran’s disabilities and describe how combat-related activities led to them.
- A copy of the past 2 years of tax returns.
- A letter to describe the parents’ current occupation and how much of the household’s income is generated from that.
- Student Essay and Personal Statement.
- Three letters of recommendation (1 Academic Reference, 1 Community Service Reference, 1 Extra-Curricular Activity)
Purpose
To recognize the commitment and sacrifice our Veterans and service member families have made to our country, NewDay USA Foundation, Inc. is accepting nominations to provide scholarships for students to assist them in their pursuit of academic success and character development and to prepare them to become leaders.
Scholarship amounts from New Day USA Foundation provide up to $15,000 in funds for cadets to attend Admiral Farragut Academy. Eligible students may apply for the NewDay USA Foundation Scholarship by completing the online nomination form. Please contact the Admissions Office 727-384-5504.
What does the scholarship cover?
The New Day Foundation Scholarship awards up to $15,000 to help cover tuition costs.
Which veterans groups suggest candidates?
Candidates are being suggested by veterans support groups such as:
- Yellow Ribbon Fund
- Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors
- Special Operations Warrior Foundation
- Wounded Warrior AW2
- Walter Reed Medical Center
- USO
Selection Criteria
Priority of selection is given in this order to nominated students entering 8th-11th grade:

Eligibility
For a nomination , scholarship applicants must…
- Be a child entering grade 8 – 11 and currently enrolled in an accredited public, private, grade school or a state approved home school curriculum on target to graduate high school at the appropriate age/grade.
- The NewDay USA Scholarship Program is focused on Gold Star Families. Applications from children of 100% disabled veterans where the disability is the direct result of combat service will be considered on a case by case basis.
- Have successfully graduated 7th grade and be proficient in both Math and Reading.
- Meet all the Admission requirements set by Admiral Farragut Academy and be offered a letter of admission acceptance.
Applicant must submit the following items for the nomination packet:
- Completed online nomination form.
- Three character references in the form of a letter of recommendation.
- Proof of volunteer experience by the child and a student essay.
- A copy of the child’s most recent academic transcript plus the prior two years of report cards.
- A copy of parent DD214 AND a copy of the Department of Veterans Affairs letter for the service connected compensation award.
- A copy of the past 2 years of tax returns.
- A letter describing the nature of disabilities/family hardships.
