Upper School students volunteer at American Legion’s Veterans Day Boat Parade

On Saturday, November 14th, 2020, Admiral Farragut Academy upper school students along with Residential Life TAC Mentor and Dockmaster Chief Dan Kuhl participated in the 24th annual American Legion’s Veterans Day Boat Parade in Madeira Beach, Florida. This was the second year our students appeared in the parade and they were involved in various ways to support this event. All proceeds from the parade went to support local veteran’s charities.

22 Upper School students to become certified in disaster preparedness called FEMA Teen CERT

Some of our Admiral Farragut Academy FEMA Teen CERT students volunteering on October 31, 2020.

This year, Admiral Farragut Academy’s Naval Science instructors enhanced the Operational Risk Management portion of Farragut’s curriculum. Through a partnership with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), 22 students in Naval Science II and III are being trained to become FEMA Teen Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) certified. Cruz Helmstetter ‘25 goes above and beyond during school-wide food drive

Cruz Helmstetter ’25 raised $377 to purchase a total of 374 food items for a schoolwide food drive benefiting the St. Petersburg Free Clinic.

8th grader and 7-day boarding student Cruz Helmstetter exhibited Farragut’s core values of integrity, self-discipline, and perseverance when he went above and beyond to provide for Farragut’s school-wide food drive benefiting the St. Petersburg Free Clinic (a multi-service, independent, not-for-profit human services agency providing community neighbors assistance with food, shelter and health care since 1970).

Farragut students are collecting items for Toys for Tots

Admiral Farragut Academy is hosting a Toys for Tots campaign now through December 18th. Donations of new, unwrapped toys are being collected in the Commandant’s Office and Lower School Office.

Farragut community comes together for Annual Earth Day Cleanup

Thank you to those that helped at our Annual Earth Day Cleanup at Clam Bayou and for science teacher Sari Deitche for organizing! In our three years of sponsoring the event, we had our biggest turnout yet. Over 60 student and parent volunteers picked up trash, filling a 300-gallon can full of plastic, styrofoam, wood, glass and cigarette butts, among other debris. We also cleaned out dead and dying wood and palm tree fronds. And we planted over 200 mangrove seedlings. All this was completed in less than 2 hours!

Ashton Raymer ‘20 does environmental project to earn Eagle Scout rank

Farragut Junior Ashton Raymer earned his Eagle Scout rank this past June. Only 4% of scouts are granted this rank (including famed moonwalking astronaut and Farragut alumnus Charles Duke [Brig Gen, USAF, Ret.]), and it takes a couple of years of hard work and commitment to complete. Eagle Scouts are required to complete a community service project, and Ashton chose to work with Boyd Hill Nature Preserve Park to build and install trash can receptacles.
