Dozens of Kindergarteners…and first-graders and second-graders, in fact the entire student body — Upper and Lower School — spent a portion of their day on September 8 getting muddy planting hundreds of plugs of salt marsh grass in the school’s nursery, which sits just outside of Sari Deitche’s biology classroom. For many, it was the first time hearing about erosion, water quality, and even the word “salt marsh,” as students, both old and young, and from all over the globe, worked together as part of the Tampa Bay Watch Bay Grasses in Classes program. On Friday, April 15th, 2016, OneBlood brought a Blood Bus on campus so that students and staff could donate, and the results were overwhelming. 39 people donated, including 36 students and three staff members, and together they donated a total of approximately 24 pints of blood.
On March 5, Kelly Rubash ‘09 finished as the Second Runner-Up in the sixth annual Tampa Bay Woman of the Year fundraising event by the Westchase Foundation in Hillsborough County. The competition lasted over nine weeks during which 13 candidates raised funds for families in need, totaling a little over $100,000 during that span. Read more
On Tuesday, January 26, Eletto, who graduated with honors from Farragut and served in both the Army and the Navy, was awarded with the 2015 Citizen of the Year award from the Greater Riverview Chamber of Commerce for his work in the community that encompasses Riverview, Brandon, Apollo Beach and Ruskin.
Saturday mornings for most teenagers are usually reserved for snaring extra sleep. For Michael Cooney, the day has been devoted to helping with the Challenger League, which is for players with physical or mental disabilities charitable.
Each month, the Lower School chooses a character theme as a way to introduce younger students to the idea of charitable acts. The emphasis is to help shape a narrative for them in regard to what role they play in society. In previous months, the respective themes were integrity, responsibility and perseverance.
