Four players from BlueJackets football team receive top honors
Four players from the Farragut football team made the 2015-16 Florida All-State Class 2A team, as chosen by newspaper editors and reporters.
Senior safety Craig Watts was selected to the First Team Defense and junior wide receiver Matt Landers was selected to the First Team Offense. Junior quarterback Austyn Causey and junior offensive lineman L’dre Barnes were selected to the Second Team Offense.
The group were instrumental in helping the BlueJackets advance to the 2015 FHSAA region finals for the second time in school history. The team finished with an impressive 10-2 record, eventually bowing out of the playoffs in a heartbreaking 36-32 loss to Cambridge Christian in the Class 2A region final.
“It’s a testament to all the hard work the entire team put in this past year,” said Craig, who is in the top 20 for safeties in several national ranking services. “We were grinding all year and our hard work has paid off.”
Craig, who had decommitted from his verbal choice of Colorado at the beginning of January, will make his official decision for college on National Signing Day, Wednesday, Feb. 3. The St. Petersburg resident will participate in Saturday night’s Blue-Grey North-South All-American Bowl, a high school all-star game featuring many of the nation’s best football recruits in the Class of 2016.
The contest will be held at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa and is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. It will be live-streamed on the Impact Football Network.
