Farragut Grieves Loss of Beloved Alumnus, Friend, and Board Member

 

 

Don Schreiber, 93 of Southampton, PA, class of 1946 North, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2022, while surrounded by family and loved ones.  The Farragut community is mourning the loss of our alumnus and volunteer whose faithful service and philanthropy have spanned decades and impacted many generations.   

Beginning in the early 1980s Don served as the Alumni Association President. In 1987 he was elected to the Admiral Farragut Academy Pine Beach Board of Trustees and served on its board until the New Jersey school closed in 1994. Loyal to Farragut, whether North or South, he worked with others to help found the Farragut Foundation in 1996 and later served as its President. Don served on both present-day Farragut boards in emeritus, including as Honorary Trustee of the Board of Directors. 

On behalf of Admiral Farragut Academy, we will always be grateful for Don’s lifelong passion for Farragut and his love for our school. Don never missed Homecoming, and true to form, attended Homecoming last February 2022 and celebrated fellow alumnus Charlie Duke’s ‘53S 50th Anniversary of his famous moonwalk. In a 2018 interview, Don described his Farragut experience: 

“I received a fine education at Farragut and graduated in May 1946. I was accepted and earned my degree from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, but it was at Farragut where I made lifetime friends. I have added even more during my years with the Alumni Association, Board of Trustees, and at homecomings in NJ and St. Petersburg. I treasure those relationships more than anything. I am proud to be a Farragut alumnus.”

Relatives, friends, and alumni are invited to attend the memorial service on Thursday, September 1, 2022, at 11:00 AM at St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church, Whitemarsh, 720 Camp Hill Rd., Ft. Washington, PA 19034. Interment will be held privately.
