Dr. Steven Hoffman ‘77N receives 2015 PRIDE Award at Southeast Missouri State University

Dr. Steven Hoffman, who graduated from Admiral Farragut Academy’s Pine Beach campus in 1977, recently was rewarded for his achievements at Southeast Missouri State University (Southeast) with the 2015 PRIDE Award, which recognizes a faculty member who has demonstrated excellence as a teacher with extraordinary level of scholarship, service and accomplishment.

As part of the recognition, Hoffman served as the grand marshal during the Dec. 19th commencement at Southeast while also presenting the Honors Convocation. Read more on the award. Read more

Rick Clegg ‘75N uses old shipping containers to create alternative housing

Rick Clegg, a 1975 Pine Beach, New Jersey campus graduate, was recently featured in the Palm Beach Post for his venture using old shipping containers to create alternative housing. Clegg, an entrepreneur in Jupiter, Fla. who owns Jupiter Outdoor Center, spent $3,000 apiece on three containers to build a house that he markets on Airbnb as a eco vacation retreat. The Army-Navy game is well renowned for its pageantry, as many of Farragut graduates who have attended either academy can attest. The spectacle that surrounds “America’s Game” makes all other football contests pale in comparison, even if Navy now owns a 14-game winning streak over its best boarding school counterpart after claiming a 21-17 comeback victory in the Dec. 12th meeting. For us at Farragut, the Army-Navy game means even more. With so many alumni having served, currently serving, or now attending the academies in Annapolis or West Point, the 116th meeting — this one at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia — is a perfect opportunity for those with ties to both Farragut and the academies to come together in a celebrated way at Army Navy Weekend. Lt. Col. (USMC, Ret.) Rob Irvine ‘70 retires from the U.S. Armed Forces

irwin001Lt. Col. (USMC, Ret.) Rob Irvine, who graduated from Admiral Farragut Academy’s Pine Beach campus in 1970, recently announced his retirement after putting in over 30 years of counterintelligence and human intelligence for the U.S. Armed Forces. His most recent assignment came as the Defense Intelligence Senior Leader (DISL), Strategic Advisor to Coast Guard Assistant Commandant for Intelligence, which he took over in January 2015. Previously, he served as the founding Director of the Coast Guard Counterintelligence Service from November 2004 to January 2015. Read more

Rob Ewing, the Aviation Academy Director at Farragut, received the Alumni Service Award from Embry-Riddle on October 9, 2015, as a part of the Operation Bootstrap 2015 Homecoming event in Daytona Beach. The award is given to an individual who continuously demonstrates an extraordinary level of selfless commitment and endless enthusiasm for the university through, but not limited to, service, support, leadership and recruitment, according to the school’s website.
