Fred Nelson ’59S (left) and Stephen Hice ’60S (non-grad) reconnect after 62 years.
Stephen Hice attended Admiral Farragut Academy’s St. Petersburg campus from 1956-1958. After 62 years and what seemed like an entire lifetime, Stephen contacted Victoria Raymer in Farragut’s alumni office in order to reconnect with his former roommate, Fred Nelson ‘59S. They have had several conversations since then, reminiscing about a time that left a great impression on both of their lives. Stephen shared the following letter to Fred that is a testament to the impact Farragut had on their lives.
On Thursday and Friday, September 17th and 18th, the Engineering and Naval Science classes held a Cardboard Regatta. For over two weeks, the Engineering and Naval Science classes worked on designing vessels using concepts they learned in both classes. The tools they had to make the boats included cardboard, clear packing tape, duct tape, string, paint, and decorations. Students employed the engineering design process and their understanding of boat terminology and nomenclature to design a vessel that would carry them across Farragut’s pool.
It is with great pleasure that we introduce the Regimental Leadership Staff for the 1st semester of the 2020-21 school year:
Regimental Commander – Cristian Rogers-Romero
Regimental Chief of Staff – Zach Fisher
Alpha Battalion Commander – Shakeem Evans
Bravo Battalion Commander – Kalynn Miner
Charlie Battalion Commander – Tyler Turner
The regimental commander and regimental staff have proven themselves through their commitment to naval science, leadership, academics, and their desire to improve the Farragut corps of cadets. These are the kinds of events that cadets at a military boarding school work very hard towards. We look forward to seeing what they’ll accomplish!
