Exploring the Journey of Human Growth in AP Psychology

Understanding how humans grow, learn, and change over time is at the heart of developmental psychology—and students in Mrs. Ewing’s AP Psychology class are experiencing this topic in a creative, hands-on way.

As part of a week-long developmental psychology project, students are diving deep into the theories of influential psychologists such as Jean Piaget and Erik Erikson, while also studying the key stages of child development. Rather than learning solely from textbooks, students are applying these concepts through an engaging and interactive activity.

Each student creates a “baby book” and cares for a “sock baby,” using it as a case study to observe and analyze developmental milestones. Throughout the project, students answer questions about their sock baby’s growth and behavior, incorporating AP Psychology terminology and theoretical frameworks to explain cognitive, emotional, and social development.

This project encourages critical thinking, creativity, and real-world application of complex psychological concepts—hallmarks of Farragut’s academic approach. By blending theory with experiential learning, students gain a deeper understanding of how humans develop across the lifespan.
