Two Farragut fifth graders are recognized in creative writing contest
We are thrilled to announce that two fifth-grade students placed in the 35th Annual Stanley Shalit Short Story Competition sponsored by the Friends of the Largo Library. Carlos Bonilla won Second Place and $75 and Carson Covington won Honorable Mention and $25.
The prompt for this year’s contest was to write an imaginative 4-8 page story about a backpack. The story was to revolve around an experience, setting, problem, challenge, tragedy, triumph, or any circumstance that would intrigue readers and bring characters to life.
Carlos’s story, The Traveling Adventures of Señor Fluffy, was about his cat’s travels – made possible by a backpack. Click here to read Carlos’ story!
Carson’s story, The Backpack Not From Here, was about a time-traveling backpack that took its owner to different wars in the past and future. Click here to read Carson’s story!
Carlos and Carson were recognized along with eight other finalists at an awards ceremony on Thursday, November 1st.
Both boys worked very hard on their stories, and we are all very proud of them!
