Jeremiah Zio came to Admiral Farragut to play basketball. After his freshman year at Ridgewood High, where he played on the varsity and averaged four points in 25 games, he transferred to AFA. At 6-foot-8, 225 pounds, he was hard to miss as he walked the halls in his uniform. Read more

A fearless Admiral Farragut team was undaunted by the prestige of perennial playoff power Tampa Prep, as the Blue Jackets knocked off the Terrapins on Joe Fenlon Court Friday night.
A three-pointer from Andreas Fuller with :04 left proved to be the final dagger in the 64-61 victory. Fuller led Admiral Farragut in scoring with 21 points on 9-of-14 shooting. The win improved Admiral Farragut to 3-1 in 4A District 4, while Tampa Prep falls to 2-2 in district play.
It was a nip-and-tuck affair for the entire game, as every time one team made a run, the opposite responded. Tyreek Montgomery’s 11-point first half kept the Blue Jackets in the game. Winston Dessesow (12 points) and Montgomery (14 points) surpassed their season averages for scoring.
Sophomore sensation Jaren Phillips was the only double-figure scorer for the Terrapins, finishing with 26 points and seven rebounds. Amari Goulbourne pitched in seven points and five assists.
The Blue Jackets (9-2) have another key district showdown next week, when they travel to Cambridge Christian on Tuesday. Tampa Prep (13-3) will look to end its two-game losing streak on Tuesday when they host Indian Rocks Christian.
