Five wrestlers to compete in regional championship
The AFA Wrestling Team competed at the Class 1A district championships at Sarasota Booker High School this past weekend. Eight Bluejackets competed, with five wrestlers placing in the top three, qualifying for the regional championships this weekend at Bradenton Southeast High School.
If they can place top four in their weight class, they will qualify for the state championships at the Silver Spurs Arena in Kissimmee.
Good Luck to Our Wrestlers:
Caleb Lemmons (District champ)
Dillon Ottinger (District third)
Erik Sokolowski (District third)
Chris Sexton (District champ)
Haowen Li (District runner-up)
“Caleb Lemmons is a freshman and just a second-year wrestler. He did not place at districts last year, but committed himself during the offseason and won a district title. Chris Sexton is a senior who had never won a district title, but transferred to AFA to get himself to the next level. Senior Haowen Li had a great tournament before falling in the finals in a tightly contested bout. Erik Sokolowski, another freshman, turned in a gutsy performance by taking third place as a second-year wrestler. Senior Dillon Ottinger placed third in a very stacked weight class, placing behind two state-ranked wrestlers.” – Coach Lacroix
