Gary’s most recent operational experience in the Army was as the Deputy Regimental Commander for the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment and the Division Operations Officer for TASK FORCE FREEDOM, in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM.  Prior to his deployment to Iraq, he also had the opportunity to deploy in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM and lead one of the first Military Transition Teams attached to 10th Mountain Division.  His team’s mission was to assist in building and training an Afghan National Army Mechanized Infantry Battalion.

After retiring from the Army, Gary re-joined the Army, but this time as a Senior Department of the Army Civilian (GS-15) in the Army Staff’s Training Directorate, Integration and Transformation Division.  Gary was then offered and accepted a position with the Army’s Rapid Equipping Force as the Chief of the Warrior Works Division and later as the Rapid Equipping Forces’ Deputy Director.  Gary’s science and engineering team designed and built rapid prototype solutions for Soldiers serving overseas in combat operations.  His last assignment with the Department of the Army was in the Pentagon serving as a Senior Strategist for Army’s Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations.

In 2017, Gary joined the Admiral Farragut Academy team and is currently serving as the Project Lead the Way and Design Thinking instructor in the Upper School Engineering Department.

Gary, his wife Ellie (a retired U.S. Air Force Lieutenant Colonel), and his daughter reside in Saint Petersburg, Florida.
