Biography
Mr. Spelman comes to us with 22 years of educational experience. He has a Social Studies and Physical Education certification from the state of Florida. He spent 15 years with Pinellas County Schools, where he was on the faculty of Palm Harbor University High School when it first opened. Later, he taught with the Diocese of St. Petersburg at Clearwater Central Catholic and St. Petersburg Catholic High Schools. During this time, he has taught almost every course in social studies, including US History, World History, AP US History, AP US Government and Politics, AP European History, Psychology, Geography, Law Studies and the History of The Vietnam War. In addition, he attended seminars offered by the National Endowment for the Humanities, From Columbus to Jamestown in St. Augustine and The History of WWII in Florida at the University of South Florida. In addition to this, Mr. Spelman is a reader for the College Board ‘s AP US Government and Politics exam. Besides teaching, Mr. Speman has also coached High School Football for the past 22 years. During this time he was hired by the University of Florida’s football program to work at the summer football camps. Coach Spelman had the honor to work with legendary Coaches Steve Spurrier and Urban Meyer. His coaching career was highlighted when he was part of Clearwater Central Catholics football staff and the team played for the State Championship in 2013. Mr. Spelman has one son, Will, who recently graduated from Florida Gulf Coast University where he majored in Criminal Justice. Will is currently enrolled at the Pinellas County Law Enforcement Academy where he is working on his law enforcement certification.
