Retired astronauts Charlie Duke ’53S and Farragut parent Nicole Stott, were guest speakers at Starmus in Zurich in July. Starmus is a global festival bringing together astronauts, scientists, and artists to enhance science exploration and communication. The festival celebrated the 50th Anniversary of Apollo 11 with astronaut Buzz Aldrin. Duke opened the festival and shared his journey as Capcom on Apollo 11 and his moon landing with Apollo 16. Stott shared the Space for Art Foundation and the connection of space, art and healing. To top off the Starmus Queen’s legendary guitarist and PhD astrophysicist, Brian May performed We Are The Champions. Cadet Roman Stott ’21 got to experience this amazing event with the trailblazers of space, science, and music.
Lt. Col. Bill Masciangelo USMC (ret.) ’62N was interviewed by the Del Webb Cane Bay Resident News, his community’s local monthly magazine. Bill has had a fascinating career and is now chaplain for Del Webb’s Veteran’s Club.
Al Ferrante ’64N had an outstanding career for 22 years in motion pictures and the television industry. He won several Golden Reel Awards for Motion Picture Sound Editors. He built his career with some of the top studios, including Paramount, MGM, Universal, and Walt Disney.
Congratulations to April Silverberg ’08 for receiving her Doctorate of Nursing (DNP). Pictured is April during her White Coat ceremony with her husband Noah ’09 and their son Eli.
David Bowser ’80S recently returned to Durham, NC, where he graduated from Duke University in ’84. David is representing the newly elected Sheriff of Durham County (NC) as Communications & Public Relations Manager. David is “rallying the troops” of fellow ’80 classmates for next year’s 40th reunion!
Ashley Patterson-Beaty ‘02 kicked-off the Farragut 2019-20 Faculty and Staff Workshop with a presentation on “Making Connections in the Digital Age.” Ashley recently founded Ardeidae Group LLC.
In May, a group of alumni met for drinks and fun at Park & Rec in downtown St. Petersburg. Dylan Burke ‘18 got to meet some of dad Troy Burke ‘86S’s Farragut classmates: Peter Parmenter ’83S, Troy Donahue ’84S, and Larry Pomeroy ’85S.
Ethan Lipsky ’18, son of David ’75N and Cheryl, completed his plebe year at USMMA. US Maritime Administrator RADM Mark H. Buzby USN (ret.) ’75N addressed and greeted all the newly minted Merchant Marine and Armed Forces Officers.
