Beyond Admiral Farragut Academy being a traditional PreK-12th grade private, college prep school, we are a military school for grades 8-12, the Upper School. The Upper School students are required to participate in the Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC) Program and are referred to as “cadets”. The students in Lower School, PreK-7th grade, are not involved in the military except for 6th and 7th graders who have the option to begin an introduction into Naval Pride and Tradition as an extracurricular activity.
Farragut is a United States Honor Naval military school — so designated by an Act of Congress and re-accredited each year by the Department of the Navy. Our students have the advantage to earn appointments and nominations that otherwise may be difficult to get attending any other academy. More than that though, the military component provides structure, self-discipline, respect, independence, and all around strong character development.
So Much More
Than a Military School
We use the military tools to create well-rounded, respectful young men and women, but we are also so much MORE than a military school.
- We are on the waterfront which provides a ton of hands-on marine science opportunities and water activities like kayaking and sailing.
- We have a full scuba program where students practice in the pool on-campus and travel to nearby springs and dive spots.
- We offer an aviation program where students can earn their private pilot’s license and fly at Albert Whitted Airport in downtown St. Pete.
- We are a college preparatory school with a 100% matriculation rate.
- We have a strong non-military Lower School, which starts in PreK for students as young as 3 years old and goes through 7th grade.
