The power of the web has officially arrived at Admiral Farragut Academy! 1:1 Chromebook. The educational disconnect between school and home has now been bridged with Chrome devices. Our students already seem to be more engaged in the coursework and are able to collaborate on projects more fluidly while using their Chromebooks to share resources on the web. As one of our teachers observed, “It adds to my lessons and it adds to the students’ interest and intrigue in the topics that we’re learning because they can look into them in ways that are quicker and that they’re more accustomed to.” Easier. Faster. More Secure.
Starting in the 2016-2017 academic year, Admiral Farragut Academy will give Upper School students the option of bringing a Chromebook to class and downloading textbooks through a browser. As we continue to move toward a 21st century style of learning, we need students to have constant access to the web and Google Apps, which we already use. We encourage parents to start looking at Chromebooks now (they make excellent Christmas or birthday presents).
Prices start at $149.99 and range depending on the features you prefer. All Chromebooks are lightweight and fast. They also have excellent battery life. However, the school will also provide a charging area during lunch for those moments when Upper School students need a quick battery boost.
Frequently Asked Questions
What model of Chromebook should I get for my student?
Admiral Farragut Academy will accept all Chromebook models. Choose the model with the features that would be best for your student and fit your budget.
Should I choose a model with more storage or bundled with additional storage?
In most instances, it will not be necessary to focus on the amount of storage when making your purchasing decision. All of the work that the students will be completing on Chromebooks will be based in the cloud. Admiral Farragut Academy has partnered with Google to provide unlimited storage space that students need for class and more.
Should I avoid purchasing an older or less expensive Chromebook as it might become obsolete before my student graduates?
As Chromebooks are designed on cloud computing technology, they do not age as traditional computers do. Often, these devices will even be helpful when you graduate from Farragut and move on to higher education.
