Shortly after Arron Prather won the U.S. Track and Field Masters 60m title in 2006, he began pursuing another dream – creating a track club centered around the Gospel. With a similar diligence that had taken him from an impoverished upbringing in Jersey City, New Jersey to an Olympic hopeful, Prather teamed up with his wife, Anita, an alternate on the 1992 U.S. Olympic 4×400 relay team, to found the Wings of an Eagle Ministry Track Club. Kathryn is on the fast track to a high ranking position in the United States Navy.
When Peggy Thomas was helping her daughter, Kathryn, move onto the USS Bataan in 2014, the realization hit her like a ton of bricks. Her “baby girl was grown up.” Mind you, this wasn’t just some new gig as a manager at some coffeehouse down the street. This was an assignment as a division officer aboard a Wasp-class amphibious assault ship — a metallic behemoth that weighs 40,000 tons and stretches 844 feet with a crew of about 2,000 marines, 1,000 enlisted men and women, and approximately 100 officers.

With the regular season wrapping up this week, Cesar Robalino believes the Farragut boys soccer team has the potential to advance in the upcoming Class 1A-6 district tournament.
“When we have a full squad, we can compete with pretty much anyone in our district,” said Robalino, who is in his third year as the BlueJackets coach.
The BlueJackets (3-6, 2-5) have played several games this year shorthanded due to Farragut’s unique situation in which many players are late returning to school after the Thanksgiving and Winter break. In addition, a few key players missed some games due to injuries.
“We’re back to full strength now,” Robalino said.
Robalino says center midfielder Kaan Gezen, center fullback Tony Hoang, center midfielder J.C. Scherer and striker Ivan Volkov have been instrumental in helping the team achieve the most regular season wins since Robalino first arrived at Farragut.
Ivan leads the team with five goals while Tony has been the mainstay on defense.
In addition, the team – with eight seniors – has gradually found its chemistry throughout the season as the younger players (two freshman and four sophomores) have matured.
“We’ve been able to find our rhythm recently and that should play a major role in how we do in the district tournament,” said J.C., the junior captain who is in his third year at Farragut. “We have a good mix of players from young to old so it’s just a matter of us playing together in the playoffs. I like our chances.”
The BlueJackets will most likely face Indian Rocks Christian in the first round of the district tournament, which begins play on Monday, January 22 at Calvary Christian School in Clearwater. For more details and updated information, please visit: https://www.fhsaa.org/sports/boys-soccer.

After suffering two losses to highly ranked teams in the middle of December, the BlueJackets (8-7) have recovered in a large way, stringing together five wins over their last six contests. Three of those wins have been against district opponents to help Farragut improve to 5-3 in the Class 3A, District 8 standings. Read more
Max Jessen ’15 (on left in picture) is part of a three-person team at Purdue University recently selected as a global regional finalist for the 7th Annual Hult Prize, which inspires the brightest university students from around the globe to focus on solving one of the world’s key social challenges. The prize carries with it $1 million in startup capital to develop the winner’s project as well as opportunities to work with business leaders from around the world. Read more
On Friday, January 8th St. Pete Beach Mayor Maria Lowe, who is also stepmom to 7th grade student Gabriel Lowe, and Vice Mayor is Terri Finnerty spoke to the 7th grade class, thanks to Social Studies teacher Carolyn Rowe. The class has just started their unit on civics and the main conversation was about municipal government. The students are also writing an essay for a Florida state-wide contest titled “If I were elected Mayor…” of which Mayor Lowe invited our students to participate in the contest.
